Jim River DFT #6 Bear Trap
The Jim River DFT #6 Bear Trap is unbelievably large, weighing in at a whopping 48 lbs. This trap is 45" long with a jaw spread of 17". This sized trap was used to catch the largest, most powerful bears. The chain has a swivel and a large ring just like the old traps. The pan reads "DAKOTA FUR AND TRADE COMPANY HBC No. 6."
The DFT #6 is just like the traps used by the early pioneers, explorers and trappers. These hardy people demanded quality and reliability in their equipment. This is the kind of trap they would have used.
This trap represents the hardy people who made the Dakotas great. The pan is so large it's like a small frying pan. The springs are stout and made of the finest tempered spring steel and each will compress at about 375 pounds of pressure. It takes a strong vice or clamps to compress the springs.
Each trap has its own serial number. The serial number is stamped on the right hand side of the frame.
